No. 1 Bulldogs Sweep Georgia Tech in Season Opener

ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia women's tennis team opened its 2025 spring season with a bang, sweeping in-state rival Georgia Tech 4-0 in front of 850 spectators at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Tennis Facility on Friday.

  • Georgia now leads the all-time series 31-6, having won each of its last seven meetings while taking 13 of the last 15 matches.
  • The Bulldogs have now won 15 of their 31 all-time victories over the Yellow Jackets via sweep.
  • Georgia opened the evening in dominant fashion in doubles as the newly formed pair of senior Guillermina Grant and junior Sofia Rojas secured a bagel over #54 Alejandra Cruz and Given Roach, 6-0, on court two. Within a minute, the duo of senior Dasha Vidmanova and sophomore Aysegul Mert sealed the deal with a 6-1 win over Scarlett Nicholson and Kate Sharabura, 6-1, to secure the doubles point.
  • No. 1 Vidmanova picked up right where she left off in fall play, cruising past Nicholson, 6-1, 6-1, to secure the first singles point of the day for the Bulldogs.
  • Mert played her first singles match in the court three slot and did not disappoint, battling her way through a tough first set before breaking through in the second to defeat Sharabura, 6-4, 6-3, and give Georgia a 3-0 lead.
  • In her dual match debut for the Bulldogs, Rojas secured the match-clinching victory in a 6-4, 6-2 win over Olivia Carneiro on court six.
  • With today's results, Vidmanova earned her 60th-career doubles victory while Mert recorded her 20th-career singles win in the Red and Black.
