EUGENE, Ore. --- Both Lynna Irby-Jackson and Erin McMeniman recorded top-20 finishes during day six of the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Ore., Friday.
In one of the night's final events, former Georgia NCAA champion Lynna Irby-Jackson finished 16th in the 200-meter dash semifinal after flying to a 22.85. Irby-Jackson will be aiming for a spot on Team USA's relay after also competing in the 400m at the Trials.
Graduate transfer Erin McMeniman, who is coming off a career-best 10th place finish at the NCAA Championships, sandwiched a mark of 48.86 meters/160 feet, 4 inches in her three-throw series to take 20th in the women's javelin.
On Thursday, current Georgia All-American Dominique Mustin qualified automatically for the 400m hurdle semifinal after taking fourth in her heat and 14th overall with a 56.70. Mustin returns to action on Saturday in the next round of the hurdles at 8:41 p.m.
On Sunday, sophomore Aaliyah Butler, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., came out of lane five and was the second finisher in the women's 400m final with a 49.71, which topped her school record. This clinched her spot on Team USA.
Keturah Orji, who competed for Georgia from 2015-18, traveled the second-longest distance of the meet in the triple jump on her sixth try Saturday to earn a spot on Team USA for the coming Olympics. Fourth in the triple jump at the 2016 Games, Orji was seventh at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
Six current Bulldogs and nine former Georgia standouts are competing in their home country's Trials between June 21-30. The meet is being held on the University of Oregon campus where the Bulldog men and women recently finished ninth and 10th, respectively, at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 5-8). The top three finishers in each event at the Trials will advance to the Olympic Games in Paris (August 1-11), barring the athletes have the standard mark/time necessary in their event.
