No. 7 Georgia Sweeps No. 34 Ole Miss, 4-0

April 07, 2024 | Women's Tennis

ATHENS, Ga. —  The No. 7 Georgia women's tennis team rounded out the weekend with its second sweep in three days, securing a 4-0 victory over No. 34 Ole Miss at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Sunday.

The Bulldogs (15-4, 10-1 SEC) now improve to 5-0 on the season at home and lead the all-time series against Ole Miss (10-10, 4-8 SEC) 45-10, winning 24 of the last 27 meetings against the Rebels.

"It's just so much fun coming out here and having this kind of environment every day that we play at home," head coach Drake Bernstein said.

Opening the afternoon with doubles, Georgia came out strong en route to earning the doubles point.

The tandem of Anastasiia Lopata and Mell Reasco continued its excellent stretch at court three, picking up a 6-2 victory against Lucie Devier and Emma Kette (Ole Miss).

It was a race for the clinch between courts one and two, but ultimately the No. 8 pair of Aysegul Mert and Dasha Vidmanova got the job done, earning a 6-3 victory over Briana Crowley and Ava Hrastar (Ole Miss) to give Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage.

In singles, early action saw both teams split first sets at three apiece.

On court four, #77 Lopata was dominant from start to finish as she cruised past Crowley (Ole Miss) 6-2, 6-2 to double Georgia's lead to 2-0.

The remaining five courts saw competitive back-and-forth action with three matches heading to a third set.

After going out in front following the first set, No. 20 Vidmanova battled her way back in the late stages of the second before securing a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Hrastar (Ole Miss).

Within a minute, Mert completed a comeback from a set down to win 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 over Kette (Ole Miss) and secure the clinch for the Bulldogs in front of the Georgia faithful.

"We've got the best fans in the nation and the best crowd in the nation. It makes those early mornings and those long days that this team is putting in the work worth it when you get to come out and play in front of that," said Bernstein.

Georgia will remain at home for its final weekend of the regular season where it is set to host No. 27 Vanderbilt on Friday, April 12 at 5 p.m. ET, followed by No. 64 Kentucky on Sunday, April 14 at 1 p.m. ET, which both matches taking place at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
