Five Bulldogs Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

ATHENS, Ga. – Five members of the University of Georgia swimming and diving teams were named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District ® Swimming & Diving Team as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Meghan Wenzel, juniors Jackson Bates, Abby McCulloh, and Briana Roberson, and sophomore Shea Furse were recognized on the roster. It was the second career placement for Bates, McCulloh, and Wenzel, and first for Furse and Roberson.
Wenzel, a native of Hatfield, Pennsylvania, holds a 3.79 GPA in Human Development and Family Science. This season, she earned Second Team CSCAA All-America honors on 1-meter with a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Championships. She also finished fourth on 1-meter, ninth on platform, and 11th on 3-meter at the SEC Championships. She was named to the Dean's List and J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Honor Roll, along with being inducted into the Georgia Way LEAD Academy.
Bates, an Athens native, holds a 3.72 GPA in Biology, and was named to this season's SEC Community Service Team. He finished 25th in the 200y breaststroke and 30th in 100y breaststroke at the SEC Championships, while setting personal-best times in his three primary events. He was named to the J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Honor Roll and serves as a team representative on the UGA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
McCulloh, a Lilburn native, holds a 4.00 GPA in Journalism and recently won the national title in the 1,650y freestyle at the NCAA Championships in Athens. Along with her sixth-place finish in the 500y freestyle at NCAAs, she won the SEC championship in the mile and bronze medal in the 500y free. She was named to the co-winner of the SEC Women's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned UGA Presidential Scholars honors for a 4.0 fall semester GPA.
Roberson, a native of Fulshear, Texas, holds a 3.99 GPA in Fisheries and Wildlife. She earned Second Team CSCAA All-America citations in the 200y freestyle and 400y freestyle relays, along with a bronze medal in the 400y free relay at the SEC Championships. She set new personal-best times in each of her primary events and received Presidential Scholars honors for a 4.0 fall semester GPA.
Furse, a native of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, holds a 3.94 GPA in Marketing. She earned First Team CSCAA All-America honors in the 800y freestyle and finished 24th in the 200y freestyle at the NCAA Championships. At SECs, she earned a bronze medal in the 800y freestyle relay and finished seventh in the 200y free. Along with setting new PBs in nine events, she was named to the Dean's List and J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Honor Roll.
