Georgia Finishes 11th at NCAA Men’s Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – The veterans of the University of Georgia men's swimming and diving team left one final mark on the program on the final night of competition at the 2024 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships Saturday at the IU Natatorium.
In the overall standings, Georgia finished 11th with 116 points, improving upon last season's 12th-place, 96-point finish, with 11 student-athletes combining to earn 24 All-America citations. Arizona State won its first NCAA swimming and diving championship with 523.5 points, followed by California in second place and Florida in third.
In his final individual event of his Georgia career, graduate Bradley Dunham went out in spectacular fashion, setting a school record in the morning and earning First Team All-America honors in the evening. In prelims, Dunham placed third with a time of 1:37.58, besting the previous record he set last month at the SEC Championships. Dunham then finished sixth in finals with a time of 1:38.43, earning the first individual podium trip of his career.
Along with junior Reese Branzell, Dunham joined fellow seniors Zach Hils and Dillon Downing to finish their collegiate careers with a school-record time of 2:48.22 in the 400y freestyle relay, finishing 13th and earning Second Team All-America citations.
Fifth-year senior Ian Grum also closed out his Bulldog career with All-America honors, earning Second Team placement with his 12th-place time of 1:39.70 in the 200y backstroke. In the morning session, sophomore Ruard van Renen placed 21st with a time of 1:40.67, while sophomore Sam Powe took 29th at 1:41.33.
Senior Jake Magahey concluded a terrific meet with Second Team All-America honors in the 200y butterfly, finishing 15th with a time of 1:41.81 to give him four citations for the week.
In 100y freestyle prelims, Branzell finished 25th with a time of 42.00, followed by Downing in 44th at 42.53, Hils in 49th at 42.58, and freshman Tomas Koski in 60th at 43.17. On the tower, junior Allen Mann finished 42nd in his NCAA debut with a score of 266.65.
