Bulldogs Earn Two Bronzes on Penultimate Night of SECs

AUBURN, Ala. – Senior Jake Magahey and graduate Bradley Dunham returned to the podium as the University of Georgia swimming and diving teams continued competition at the 2024 Southeastern Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
 
With one day of action remaining, the Georgia men stand in fourth place with 791 points, while the Georgia women rank fifth at 617 points.
 
Magahey opened the night with his second medal of the week, finishing third in the 200-yard butterfly with a personal-best time of 1:41.28, the eighth-fastest time in program history. Fifth-year Ian Grum prevailed in the consolation final with a personal-best time of 1:42.84.
 
Dunham followed it up with a bronze of his own in the 100y backstroke, posting a personal-best time of 44.91, the fifth-fastest in program history. Sophomore Ruard van Renen finished sixth with a B-cut time of 45.14, while fellow sophomore Sam Powe placed 19th with a PB of 46.31, moving to ninth all-time in school history.
 
The Georgia women nearly reached the podium twice, finishing fourth in two finals. Junior Eboni McCarty took fourth in the 100y backstroke with a B-cut of 51.28, while fifth-year Zoie Hartman posted a B-cut of 56.68. Graduate Millie Sansome won the 100y back 'C' final with a season-best time of 52.82. Hartman and McCarty joined sophomore Olivia Della Torre and junior Briana Roberson to finish fifth in the 400y medley relay with a season-best 3:32.13.
 
In the men's 100y breaststroke, senior Connor Haigh posted two top-10 PBs, finishing 14th in finals with a B-cut of 52.94, the No. 9 time in school history. Junior Arie Voloschin dropped a PB of 52.79 in prelims, the seventh-fastest time in program history. Haigh later teamed with van Renen, Dunham, and graduate Dillon Downing to tie for fourth in the 400y medley relay with an A-cut of 3:04.72, the fifth-fastest time in program history.
 
In diving, juniors Nolan Lewis and Rhett Hopkins both scored on platform to close out a strong 57-point week for the men's squad. Lewis finished 17th with a score of 270.50, while Hopkins placed 21st with a mark of 242.25.
 
The SEC Championships conclude Saturday with the 1,650y freestyle, 200y backstroke, 100y freestyle, 200y breaststroke, women's platform, and 400y freestyle relay. Saturday's prelims session starts at 10:30 a.m. EST, followed by mile heats at 3:30 p.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m. EST.
