Georgia Heads to Auburn for SEC Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – Following a pair of successful dual seasons, the University of Georgia swimming and diving teams travel to Auburn, Alabama for the 2024 Southeastern Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
The SEC Championships begin Monday, Feb. 19 and run through Saturday, Feb. 24 with prelims sessions at 10:30 a.m. EST, followed by finals at 6:30 p.m. EST on the final four days of competition. The meet was expanded to six days this season to accommodate the addition of men's and women's team diving events.

The Bulldogs will look to improve upon the men's fifth-place finish and women's sixth-place finish last season in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
The No. 7 Georgia men are led by their veterans, including graduates Bradley Dunham and Dillon Downing and seniors Zach Hils, Ian Grum, and Jake Magahey. In the preliminary psych sheet, Magahey ranks first in the 500-yard freestyle and second in the 200y butterfly, while Grum is second in the 400y IM. Defending SEC champion Dunham is seeded third in the 200y backstroke, as is Hils in the 200y IM.
Sophomore transfer Ruard van Renen holds the top seed in the 100y backstroke, with Downing and junior Reese Branzell seeded fifth in the 50y and 100y freestyle. Georgia is also seeded first in the 800y freestyle relay as the Bulldogs look for their first men's relay title since 1961.
On the women's side, the No. 13 Bulldogs enter with the league's best distance group, headlined by junior Abby McCulloh being seeded first in the mile and sophomore Rachel Stege ranked second in the 500y freestyle. Additionally, the team's 800y freestyle relay is seeded second in the psych sheet, with the 400y freestyle relay in third.
Junior Eboni McCarty ranks first in the 100y backstroke following a bronze medal in the event last season, while freshman Helena Jones is a top-six seed in the sprint events. Fifth-year Zoie Hartman carries seven previous SEC titles into the meet and is a top-three seed in the breaststroke and 200y IM.
In diving, senior Meghan Wenzel stands as a top league contender, ranking second on platform, third on 1-meter, and seventh on 3-meter heading into SECs. Junior Rhett Hopkins is ranked third on 1-meter, followed by freshman teammate Matthew Bray in fourth. Sophomore Hannah Stumpf ranks eighth on 1-meter, while junior Nolan Lewis will seek his best conference meet finishes.
