Allen, Ratledge Preview SEC Championship Game

ATHENS, Ga. – Sophomore inside linebacker C.J. Allen and senior offensive lineman Tate Ratledge spoke with the media on Tuesday afternoon and offered the following comments.

On Texas' offense…
"I think they're a very versatile offense. They have speed, speed kind of everywhere. They got some great backs and great receivers. Also, you've got to acknowledge the quarterback, both of them really, so two good quarterbacks also. "

On what he remembers from his first SECCG…
"I think just remembering the feeling that we felt when we walked off the field, knowing the odds weren't in our favor. The outcome wasn't what we wanted. So, I think just that feeling alone, you know. Also, just the opportunity we have in front of us to go out there and play football again on the big stages, you know, SEC championship in Atlanta, Georgia."

On slowing down Texas' run game…
"Like I said, they still have good backs with some great offensive linemen, so it's definitely going to be a challenge for them being able to run the ball well these past couple games. We'll be ready for the challenge."

On what Texas did well in the first match up…
"I didn't get to play that game because I was still recovering from an injury, but they are a very physical front. They are very big, very good with their hands, and very good at using their size. So, we have just been honing in on that during practice and been focusing on certain things to handle that."

On what this SECCG means to him…
"This game means everything. An SEC Championship is something you strive for every year, and it's hard to win one. I think that shows here when we've been in it the past couple of years and have, what, one win? It's hard to win one of these and to be in it is huge."

On his relationship with Carson Beck…
"I think we both can tell when the other is not having a great day and just lifting each other up through that. I can tell when Carson is not having a good day, and he can tell when I'm not having a good day. So, when we get to practice, we just kind of bounce energy off of each other and pick the other one up. We help each other push through the day because days aren't easy in the long season, but we just try to get each other out of their rut when we are in one."
