Georgia Lands Transfer Libero Kate Yoshimoto

ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia head volleyball coach Tom Black has announced the signing of transfer Kate Yoshimoto from Colorado State.
"We are so excited to bring Kate into our program,' Black said. "She's been a very successful libero who brings a ton of successful high-level experience with her. She's a grounded person with high goals on and off the court. Her and Adriana [Rhoda] are both tremendous additions to our program. We can't wait to get her here!"
Yoshimoto, a 5-2 libero from Honolulu, Hawaii, will join the team in the summer. In her three seasons in Fort Collins, Yoshimoto tallied 1,123 digs for a 3.24 digs per set rate. In her collegiate career, she's been the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week once and has been a strong student-athlete, earning Academic All-Mountain West honors twice and has twice been named a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete and CSC Academic All-District.
In 2024, Yoshimoto ranked eighth in the Mountain West with 3.21 digs per set, helping guide the Rams to the Mountain West regular season and tournament championships and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Yoshimoto put up double-digit digs 21 times last season including a season-best 19 digs twice. At the service line, she served up 22 aces.
As a redshirt sophomore in 2023, Yoshimoto played in and started all 31 matches and 127 sets at libero. She led the Rams in digs with 421, averaging 3.31 digs per set. Her first player of the week award came Nov. 6 after recording two 15+ digs games for the Rams in wins over Wyoming and San Jose State. She recorded 24 double-digit dig matches including four games with 20 or more.
Yoshimoto played in 29 out of 30 matches while appearing in 111 sets as the Rams' starting libero as a redshirt freshman in 2022, finishing the season with 352 total digs, good for first on the team and eighth in the Mountain West. She led the Rams in reception percentage at a .948 clip with nearly 500 serve reception attempts.
She graduated from Punahou School in Honolulu, earning MVP honors her junior and senior years.
Kate is the daughter of Kim and Dean Yoshimoto. She has a younger brother, Jonathan.
Yoshimoto joins fellow transfer Adriana Rhoda (outside hitter, Middle Tennessee) and the freshman signing class of outside hitters Olivia Borgman and Alex Richter, middle blocker Emma Bryson, setter Chloe Elarton, and libero/defensive specialist Keira Steininger.
