December 01, 2024 | Volleyball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Georgia volleyball student-athletes Sophie Fischer and Erykah Lovett have been named to the 2024 All-Southeastern Conference Teams, the league announced Sunday.

Fischer garnered First Team honors, the third All-SEC honor in her career. Lovett picked up her first-career all-conference honors, earning a spot on the Second Team.

Fischer, a graduate middle blocker from Fort Mill, South Carolina, becomes the 11th Georgia Bulldog to earn All-SEC honors three times in their career, most recently was Kacie Evans. Her amazing career in the Red & Black includes 2023 SEC Player of the Year, 2023 Second Team All-American, two-time All-Region honors, and a four-time SEC Player of the Week.

Fischer concluded her career with 1,119 kills, broke Georgia's all-time block assists record (450) and blocks per set record (1.43) and finished third in total blocks (488). This season, her 156 total blocks finished tied for seventh in a single season, and her 146 block assists finished third. She finished third in the SEC with 1.42 blocks per set while putting up 2.91 kills per set, ranking third on the team.

Fischer graduated with her degree in Sociology from UGA in May 2024.

"Sophie came to this program looking to get a shot to prove herself and ended up proving, surpassing even, the dreams she held for herself," Georgia head coach Tom Black said. "It just can't be overstated what she did, how she went about it, and what she poured into the people of this program. Sophie will continue to make every team and organization she's a part of proud. She is one of the all-time great UGA student-athletes and we're all beyond grateful to have walked alongside her these past three years. I'll miss her a ton."

Lovett, a graduate outside hitter from Newnan, Georgia, transferred to UGA from Tennessee prior to the 2024 season. Lovett finishes a career that spans three schools in five years with 1,244 kills and 1,192 digs. This season, she led Georgia offensively and at the service line with 3.07 kills per set and 0.34 aces per set while ranking second on the team with 2.58 digs per set. Her aces per set put her among the top servers in the league, finishing eighth in the category. In the SEC opener at Arkansas on Sept. 25, Lovett made her mark on Georgia's record book, breaking UGA's rally scoring record with 33 kills.

Lovett graduated from Tennessee in May 2024 with her Business Management degree.

"Erykah came to us during an adversity-laden year and brought a competitive fire and determination that kept us afloat through some down times," Black remarked. "When we think of Erykah, we think of a warrior. When she competes, she sees red and cares deeply about the people around her. While we all wish our time with her wasn't so short, we're grateful to have been able to have it. She beyond deserves this recognition, and we're incredibly proud of her."

Georgia concluded the 2024 season 12-14 and 6-10 in SEC play.
