ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia swimming and diving teams opened up a two-day meet against NC State with "Swimapalooza," drawing 750 spectators Friday evening to Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

Through the first night of competition, No. 5/12 NC State leads both meets: holding a 128-58 advantage in the men's meet and 119-67 lead in the women's meet.

Georgia earned three wins on the evening, led by senior Rachel Stege's victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best B-cut of 4:37.02. Stege led a 1-2-3 sweep, followed by season-best B-cuts from fellow seniors Abby McCulloh (4:40.21) and Duné Coetzee (4:40.87).
Sophomore Tomas Koski tied his personal best in the 200y freestyle with a winning time of 1:31.93, tying for the seventh-fastest time in program history. Junior Ruard van Renen rounded out the wins with a season-best B-cut of 45.03 in the 100y backstroke.
Senior Eboni McCarty, graduate Julianna Stephens, senior Bri Roberson, and freshman Katie Belle Sikes earned a B-cut in the 200y freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.77. McCarty led off with a season-best B-cut of 22.04 in the opening 50y free, while Sikes closed at 22.03, the fastest anchor leg in the race.
Additional season-best B-cut times included McCarty in the 100y backstroke (51.28), Sikes in the 50y freestyle (22.34), and freshman Marie Landreneau (48.77) and senior Reese Branzell (42.72) in the 100y freestyle.
