ATHENS, Ga. – For his performance against NC State, University of Georgia junior swimmer Ruard van Renen was named Southeastern Conference Men's Co-Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Over the two-day meet, van Renen posted a strong performance as the No. 7 Bulldogs faced off against the No. 7 Wolfpack. The Cape Town, South Africa native turned in season-best B-cut times as he swept the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events. In the 100y backstroke, his 45.03 time ranks second nationally while his 1:40.47 in the 200y backstroke ranks seventh nationally. He also led off three Bulldog relays, including a B-cut of 45.44 in starting the 400y medley relay.

van Renen marks the second Georgia men's swimmer to earn SEC Swimmer of the Week honors, following back-to-back accolades for redshirt senior Luca Urlando. Tuesday's honor was shared with Leonardo Alcantara of Alabama.

van Renen and his Georgia teammates return to action next Wednesday with the start of the Georgia Fall Invitational, running Nov. 20-22 at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
