Rhoads Named Men’s Swimming & Diving Assistant Coach
July 18, 2023 | Men's Swimming & Diving
ATHENS, Ga. – Nate Rhoads, a veteran coach at the collegiate and club level, has been named University of Georgia men's swimming and diving assistant coach, as announced by head coach Neil Versfeld Tuesday afternoon.
"Nate is an exceptional coach that brings great energy to our pool deck," Versfeld said. "We are excited to get going with him on our staff and working with our student-athletes. Our program is thrilled to welcome Nate. Go Dawgs!"
Rhoads served this past season as the volunteer coach for the men's and women's swimming and diving teams, assisting head coaches Versfeld and Stefanie Williams Moreno. He joins Versfeld's staff, which includes associate head coach Michael Norment and diving head coach Chris Colwill. His addition to the coaching staff was made possible by the implementation of new NCAA legislation regarding assistant coaches, which allowed for split programs to include an extra assistant.
Prior to joining Georgia, Rhoads served as head coach at Brenau University for seven seasons. During his tenure in Gainesville, he led the Golden Tigers' women's team to consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference championships in 2018 and 2019. He received AAC Coach of the Year honors in 2019 and 2020.
Before Brenau, Rhoads was an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb University for three seasons (2012-15), working primarily with the distance swimmers. His coaching career has also included multiple positions on club teams throughout the country, including Lakeside Aquatic Club (Texas), Quantico Devil Dolphins (Virginia), Baylor Swim Club (Tennessee), Jacobs Aquatic Club (Florida), and the Westside Silverfins (Arizona).
Rhoads rose the ranks to become a Level 4 coach in the American Swim Coaches Association, helping to produce numerous Olympic Trials and National Championships participants.
Rhoads graduated from Arizona State University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
