April 16, 2023 | Track & Field
WALNUT, Calif. --- The current national top-10 lists as well as Georgia's all-time record books were altered in a variety of events as the Mt. SAC Relays concluded Saturday.
Â
While Mikeisha Welcome took control of the national lead in the triple jump, Elena Kulichenko continued her dominant ways in the high jump.  On the track, Georgia's sprinters shined from the 100-meter dash to the 4x400m relay as the postseason continues to get closer.

The Lowdown: A new national leader emerged in the women's triple jump after Welcome traveled 14.07 meters/46 feet, 2 inches on her best attempt.  This vaulted her from fifth to third on the school's all-time top-10 list.
Â
Elena Kulichenko continued her trend of surpassing 6 feet in the high jump as the sophomore reached 1.88m/6-2 to be the second collegiate finisher and third overall.Â
Â
Nearing their school record set at the Texas Relays, the Lady Bulldogs were the top collegiate finisher (second overall) in the 4x100-meter relay after registering a 43.35.  Kaila Jackson, Autumn Wilson, Brandee Presley and Kenondra Davis combined to bring the baton around for the lap.
Â
Jackson would have crept even closer to the school record in the 100m by winning with an 11.04, however her wind was +2.2 meters/second.  In the same heat, Wilson went a windy 11.05 for second.
Â
The Lady Bulldog freshmen mentioned above swapped spots in the 200m as Wilson ran a wind-legal 22.71 for second and Jackson ran out of the same heat and was third with a 22.78, which ranks sixth in the school record books.
Â
Matthew Boling finished .01 off his last 200m finish with a 20.27 to earn runner-up honors.  His previous time still ranks 10th nationally.Â
Â
Boling was also part of the final victory of the meet for the Bulldogs in the 4x400m relay.  The quartet of Elija Godwin, Christopher Morales Williams, Boling and Caleb Cavanaugh registered a 3:02.00 to top the nearest competition by more than a second.
Â
In the 400m hurdles, Dominique Mustin jumped her teammate Zoe Pollock on the all-time list to No. 2 after registering a 57.34 for fifth.
Â
For the first time this season in the men's 400m hurdles, Cavanaugh broke 50 seconds to take fourth with a 49.92.  This moved Cavanaugh into the country's top 10 in the event.
Â
The Lady Bulldogs went 1-2 in the hammer throw in a performance highlighted by Ana da Silva reaching the sixth-best distance in school history.  While da Silva hit 64.30m/210-11 to win, Elsie Igberaese had a mark of 62.73m/205-9 for runner-up honors.
Â
In addition to the action at the Mt. SAC Relays, Ellie Hall ran the fastest 5000m of her career (16:47.97) for eighth place at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., late Friday night.
Â
Up Next: The Bulldogs return to work closer to home next weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta.  That is one of two home meets remaining before the postseason arrives.
