Wenzel Adds Platform to NCAA Slate on Final Day of Zones

March 08, 2023 | Women's Swimming & Diving

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – With a seventh-place finish on platform, junior Meghan Wenzel added a second event to her NCAA Championships schedule and closed out a successful run for the University of Georgia diving team at the 2023 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.

After previously qualifying on 1-meter Monday, Wenzel placed seventh in the women's platform final with a score of 541.20, finishing in the event's top-12 and securing a second spot at next week's NCAAs in Knoxville. The Hatfield, Pennsylvania native opened finals with a 63.00 on 10-meter and remained in the top three until her fourth dive, before rebounding with a 55.10 on her final dive. In prelims, she finished fourth with a personal-best score of 292.80, eclipsing her previous top mark from last year's SEC Championships.

Wenzel's finals appearance marked the sixth of the week for Georgia diving. Freshman Hannah Stumpf placed 17th on 1-meter and 18th on 3-meter, while sophomores Allen Mann and Nolan Lewis placed 16th and 18th on platform.

Wenzel will compete twice at next week's NCAA Championships, starting with the 1-meter on Thursday, March 16, followed by the platform on Saturday, March 18. Both prelims sessions are slated to begin around noon, with live coverage on ESPN+.
