Track Travels To Austin For Texas Relays

ATHENS, Ga. --- Members of Georgia's track and field teams traveled this week to Austin for the Texas Relays that started on Wednesday and continues through Saturday.

Twenty-eight Bulldog men and women will be competing in the relays, throws, sprints and jumps Thursday and Friday.

When Do The Dogs Start: Ana da Silva will start the meet in the women's hammer throw at 12 p.m. ET on Thursday.  Fellow Brazilian thrower Alencar Pereira will be next up for the Bulldogs in the men's hammer starting at 3 p.m.  Georgia's final competitor on day one will be graduate transfer Erin McMeniman in the women's javelin at 6:15 p.m.

On Friday, the Lady Bulldog 4x100-meter relay will start the action at 10:35 a.m. followed by a series of Georgia competitors.  The field events will begin with Gavin Beverage in the men's shot put, which will begin following the women's shot at 11 a.m.

What Bulldogs Are Competing: Kenondra Davis, Kaila Jackson, Brandee Presley, Autumn Wilson, Dominique Mustin, Zoe Pollock and Haley Tate will be competing in either in the 4x100m relay or the Invitational sprint medley relay.  Leah Anderson, Ella Rush and Bella Witt are set to battle in the 100m hurdles and Julia Harisay (javelin), Titiana Marsh (triple jump) and Mikeisha Welcome (triple jump) are the other Lady Bulldogs scheduled to compete at the 95th version of Texas' home meet.

For the men, Keshaun Black, Matthew Boling, Elija Godwin, Christopher Morales Williams, Clay Pender and Will Sumner will run legs in the 4x100m relay and Invitational sprint medley relay and Kyle Garland will run the 110m hurdles.  Marc Minichello (javelin) is also slated to line up against a variety of the nation's top squads.

Coach Caryl's Comments: "This meet will be an outdoor opener for our relays so everyone should make the most out of this opportunity," said second-year Bulldog head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert.  "We will also have a group of throwers going to Texas and I am excited to see how they perform during this early season meet since that group will be pivotal in the postseason.  The weather is looking favorable so I am ready to see our teams continue their development. GO DAWGS!"

Last Time In Austin: The Bulldogs competed at the 2015, 2017 and 2018 Texas Relays and at the 2019 NCAA Championships in Austin.Â

During the 2019 Nationals, Comenentia scored in three events, including a runner-up showing in the shot put, and Johannes Erm captured the decathlon title to help the Bulldogs finish fourth.

Glimpse At Where This Season Will Take The Dogs: This meet marks the third of 10 scheduled regular season outdoor meets over seven weekends, including the Spec Towns & Torrin Lawrence Invitational (April 6-8) in Athens on the Spec Towns Track. Â

The SEC Championships will arrive on May 11-13 in Baton Rouge, La., with the NCAA East Prelims scheduled for May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fla.  The 2023 NCAA Championships are back in Austin on June 7-10. Â

At the 2018 Relays, here were some of the Bulldogs' notable performances:
- Cejhae Greene finished third with a windy 10.17 in the 100m prelims before running the same time for seventh in the final
- Tara Davis won the 100m hurdles with a windy 13.04
- Jeramey Hampton finished first in the 800m after completing his laps in 1:48.39
- Jessica Drop was the runner-up in the 1500m with a 4:20.87 while her twin sister Samantha took second in the 5000m (16:31.42)
- Denzel Comenentia set facility record with a winning hammer throw of 76.29 meters/250 feet, 3 inches
