Georgia Finishes 12th at NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS – A pair of First Team All-America honors highlighted the final night of competition for the University of Georgia men's swimming and diving team at the 2023 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships Saturday evening at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
In the overall standings, Georgia finished 12th with 96 points. California won its second-consecutive national championship with 482 points, followed by Arizona State (430), Texas (384), and Indiana (379).
For the week, the Bulldogs accumulated 18 CSCAA All-America citations for nine athletes, including four First Team honors. The team also tallied two school records, seven top-10 program times, and six personal-best times.
Junior Jake Magahey finished third in the 1,650 freestyle with a season-best time of 14:33.82, charging ahead down the stretch to place second in his heat. With the trip to the podium, Magahey has now earned eight individual First Team All-America honors.
Senior Ian Grum also picked up his second First Team citation of the week in the 200 backstroke with a fourth-place time of 1:38.47. In the morning session, Grum broke his own school record with a time of 1:38.39, resetting the top time he posted in November. Elsewhere in the 200 back, senior Bradley Dunham earned his fourth All-America honor of the week with an 11th-place time of 1:39.86.
Closing out the meet, Dunham joined teammates Reese Branzell, Zach Hils, and Dillon Downing to place 14th in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 2:49.65. Branzell led off with a personal-best 100 freestyle split of 42.32, the third-fastest time in school history.
In prelims, graduate Andrew Abruzzo concluded his swimming career in the 200 butterfly with a 29th-place time of 1:43.32, while Downing tied for 40th in the 100 freestyle at 42.71. In the 200 backstroke, sophomore Mitchell Norton placed 28th at 1:41.88, followed by junior Wesley Ng in 37th place with a PB of 1:43.67.
