Soraya Hawthorne Named WCGA All-American

ATHENS, Ga. --- Senior Soraya Hawthorne of the University of Georgia gymnastics team has received Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association Regular Season All-America Honors, the WCGA announced Thursday.  
 
The Memphis native was named to the second team on floor, ranking 12th in the nation with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.945 for the regular season.   
 
Gymnasts with the top eight NQS for the regular season earned first team honors, while second team went to student-athletes ranked Nos. 9-16.
 
Hawthorne consistently ranked in the top-16 NQS on floor.  She peaked at No. 8 in week nine.  She compiled an NQS of 9.945 with an average of 9.900 and a season best of 9.950, which she scored five times this season.  She scored a 9.900 or better eight times in 2023, including five against SEC opponents, and collected six event titles.  
 
Hawthorne and the GymDogs will head to Denver next week for the NCAA Regional Championships. Georgia will compete in the afternoon session of second round on Friday, March 31 against LSU, Oregon State, and Nebraska.  The top two finishers will advance to the NCAA Regional Finals on Sunday, April 2.
