GymDogs Fought Hard in Loss at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. --- The University of Georgia lost a tough battle at LSU on Friday, 197.700-196.925, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.  
 
Four GymDogs received season-high scores and two more matched their best of 2023.  Senior Haley de Jong vaulted to a season-high 9.850. Freshman Jacquie Moran and graduate Josie Angeny notched season-high scores on beam-  9.925 and 9.900, respectively.  On floor, graduate Sandra Elsadek received a 9.800 and freshman Naya Howard (9.875) and senior Soraya Hawthorne (9.950) matched their bests of the season. 
 
"Our team showed resilience in a tough competition atmosphere," head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "We had some scores that didn't go our way, but we kept fighting for every tenth throughout the night. We're looking forward to finishing this three-meet road stretch next week and the being back home in Stegeman soon."  
 
The GymDogs started on bars, swinging to a 49.225 in the first rotation.  Haley de Jong led the charge with a 9.900, followed by Katie Finnegan with a 9.875. JaFree Scott's routine received a 9.850.  Naya Howard and Amanda Cashman both contributed a 9.800.  
 
Continuing on vault, Georgia totaled a 49.075.  Soraya Hawthorne and de Jong scored 9.850's, followed by a pair of 9.800s from Katie Finnegan and Amanda Cashman.  
 
The GymDogs showcased their routines on floor in the third rotation, adding a 49.375.  Hawthorne led the event for Georgia with a matched season-high score of 9.950.  Cashman and Howard contributed a pair of 9.875's, while de Jong tumbled to a 9.850.  Eryn Williams received a 9.825 for her routine.  
 
Finishing on beam, the GymDogs received a 49.250.  Freshman Jacquie Moran was the top scorer for Georgia with a 9.925, followed by a 9.900 from Josie Angeny.  Howard and de Jong each contributed a 9.950 and Vanessa Deniz flipped to a 9.725.  
 
Georgia is back on the road to complete its three-meet road stint next week at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth.  The GymDogs will face Utah and Illinois State.
