Boling Named SEC Scholar-Athlete Of The Year For Third Time

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- Georgia track and field senior sprinter Matthew Boling has been named the Southeastern Conference Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for a record-tying third time, according to a league announcement Wednesday.
While Boling was named the 2021 SEC Indoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year as well, the Houston, Texas, native garnered the 2022 outdoor honor to close last year. He is now tied with Arkansas' Nathanael Franks (2013-15 outdoors) as the only male SEC athlete to win this award three times. Maicel Uibo (2015) is the only other Bulldog to earn this accolade indoors other than Boling since its inception in 2015.
Boling holds a 3.40 GPA as he works on his Bachelor degree of Business Administration. The 2021 CoSIDA Academic Third Team All-American and 2022 College Sports Communicators (CSC) All-District selection is also a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honoree who is a regular on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
On the track, Boling ranks third in the SEC (No. 5 nationally) with his altitude adjusted 20.49 to win the 200-meter dash at the Texas Tech Open this season. He won the 300m at the Clemson Invitational after clocking a school record 32.40, which made him the No. 3 all-time collegiate performer with the No. 4 all-time collegiate performance. Boling was also part of the winning 4x400m relay team that clocked 3:02.90 to win the Tiger Paw Invitational, moving the unit to No. 2 in the school record books.
What's Next For The Bulldogs?: Boling and the Bulldogs start the SEC Outdoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday. The meet runs through Saturday as Georgia enters into its first of two indoor postseason meets.
