October 05, 2023 | General, Soccer, Track & Field

ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia men's cross country and track and field runner Cooper Bocko and soccer player Morgan Hart have been named recipients of the 2023-24 Joel Eaves Scholar-Athlete Award.

The award is presented to the male and female student-athletes with the highest grade point average upon entering the fall of semester of his or her senior year, based on academic hour rather than eligibility.  Additionally, a student-athlete must have earned at least two varsity letters to be eligible for the award.

Eaves was the Director of Athletics at UGA from 1963-1979, and the award was established with the aim of acknowledging the contributions he made during his tenure while also highlighting the academic achievements of current student-athletes.

Bocko, a native of Cumming, Ga., scored in five meets for the Bulldogs last season, including the SEC Championships and the NCAA South Regional. He finished 11th overall at this season's Gamecock Challenge to help the Bulldogs leave with the team victory. His major is Computer Science with a Business minor. Bocko is a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and has been on the Dean's List.

Morgan Hart has been a valuable member of the Georgia soccer team for the past three seasons, appearing in 46 matches with 23 starts. In her 2022 sophomore season, the Charlotte, North Carolina native started all 22 matches, tallying a team-high 1,942 minutes at center back. She joined her backline teammates in allowing only 17 goals and held opponents to a .078 shooting percentage. Heading into this season, she was named to the SEC Preseason Watch List. Off the field, she serves as a team representative to the UGA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Hart was named to the 2022 CSC Academic All-District Team and has been twice named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, along with earning multiple Presidential Scholars honors for a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The pair will be honored at the football game against Kentucky on October 7.
