BULLDOGS BULLETIN
Draws and Schedule: Perez Peña's round of 32 match will come against Michigan State's No. 25 Ozan Baris, the No. 5-8 seed in the field, on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 1:45 p.m. ET. Baris, a sophomore, qualified for the ITA National Fall Championships by making the semifinal of the ITA All-American Championships in September. Baris led the Spartans with 23 singles wins in his freshman season.

Each day will feature one round of singles, with the championship match slated for Sunday, Nov. 5. Should Perez Peña advance to the round of 16 on Thursday, he will face the winner of the match between Cornell's Radu Papoe, the Northeast Super Regional runner-up, and VCU's Mathis Bondaz, the Atlantic regional runner-up.

What's At Stake: The ITA National Fall Championships is considered to be one of the premier fall tournaments in college tennis. The field of 32 is comprised of the two ITA Regional Championship finalists from each of the 12 regions, two ITA wild cards, an ITA Cup wild card, a Milwaukee Tennis Classic wild card and the four ITA All-American semifinalists.

Southeast Regional Champ: Perez Peña won the ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship on Oct. 16 at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex, defeating South Florida's [12] Alvin Tudorica 7-6(5), 6-1. He joins Blake Croyder as the second consecutive Bulldog to win the title. His win marked the sixth time since 2013 that a Georgia player has won the singles regional championship.

Perez Peña, the field's nine seed, currently stands 11-2 on the year in singles. The Castellon de la Plana, Spain native clinched his spot at the ITA National Fall Championships after defeating teammate Cyrus Mahjoob in the semifinals.

Dawgs at ITA Fall Championships: Perez Peña will look to win the program's first singles title in the event's 45-year history. Georgia has had a player finish as the singles runner-up three times – Mikael Pernfors in 1985, Mike Sell in 1993 and Bo Hodge in 2003. In doubles, Ola Malmqvist and Allen Miller won the fall national championship in 1982 while John Isner and Luis Flores did so in 2006. Bobby Mariencheck and Wade McGuire earned doubles runner-up honors in 1993 and Hernus Pieters and Ben Wagland did so in 2012.

Since 2017, a Bulldog has made the round of 16 in singles four times. Philip Henning advanced to the round of 16 at the event in 2022 and 2019, Jan Zielinski did so in 2018 and Emil Reinberg made it to the quarterfinals in 2017.

Fantastic Fall: The Bulldogs have had an impressive start to the fall season. The team has claimed tournament titles in all three of their fall events, with Perez Peña most recently winning the ITA Southeast Regional Singles Championship just over two weeks ago.

Georgia claimed the singles and doubles titles in the red draw at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships on Oct. 1. In an all-Bulldog singles final, Thomas Paulsell earned a 6-4, 6-4, win over Perez Peña to win the red draw singles championship. In doubles, Ryan Colby and Niels Ratiu defeated Clemson's Noa Vukadin and Maxwell Smith, 8-6, in the finals. Colby and Ratiu are now 6-2 in doubles this fall.

Before the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, Colby's Bulldog career got off to a strong start at the Longhorn Invitational, winning the event's championship. A junior, Colby went 3-0 in singles with a pair of wins over top-25 players. He managed to beat No. 112 Loris Pourroy (FSU), No. 17 Micah Braswell (Texas), marking the highest-ranked win of his career, and former teammate No. 22 Peter Makk (USC) to end the weekend undefeated.

Perez Peña notched two ranked singles wins at the event as well. He beat No. 55 Youcef Rihane (FSU) on Sept. 22 for a new career-best singles win and notched a three-set victory against No. 63 Wojtek Marek (USC) on Sept. 24. The junior won 30 matches last year in singles, including 20 in dual match play.
