Georgia’s van Wyk in Fifth Heading into Final Round

FORT WORTH, Texas — The University of Georgia men's golf team ended day one at the Ben Hogan Collegiate in seventh at four-over 564, led by Ben van Wyk's five-under 135 on Monday.
Georgia finished 36 holes on the par-70, 6,885-yard layout at the Shady Oaks Country Club. The team shot two-over 282 during the both the first and second rounds to head into the third round in the top half of the team leaderboard. Van Wyk ended the day tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard after shooting 68 and 67. Oklahoma holds the team lead at 18-under 542, followed by Arizona State in second at 13-under 547 with Vanderbilt in third trailing the Sun Devils by three strokes.
Van Wyk impressed during the first two rounds of the event, earning 11 birdies across the two rounds, tied for the most of any player in the field. Buck Brumlow carded a one-over 141, highlighted by a 69 in the second round that saw the junior shoot par-or-better on 16 holes. Brumlow, who had the fifth-most pars on day one with 26, heads into the final round tied for 26th on the individual leaderboard.
Connor Creasy began the day shooting par during the first round and finished four-over 144. Caleb Manuel shot 72 and 73 for five-over 145, while Carter Loflin shot 73 in both rounds to end the day just one stroke behind Manuel.
The Bulldogs will conclude the Ben Hogan Collegiate on Tuesday with the third round slated to begin at 9 a.m. ET. This event marks the third of four fall competitions for Georgia, who will round out 2023 at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic hosted by Hawaii on Oct. 26-28.
