CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Georgia men's tennis team concluded the Miami Spring Invite on Sunday afternoon, with Trent Bryde, Thomas Paulsell, and Miguel Perez Peña leading the way for the Bulldogs by going 3-0 in singles on the weekend.
The Red and Black concluded the trip to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center with a 13-12 overall record in singles, where redshirt freshman Filipe Cosa also went undefeated, and 5-6 in doubles competition. The invite marked the final event Georgia will play in before the dual match season.
"Proud of our guys for the effort and fight they put forth during the entire weekend," said associate head coach Jamie Hunt. "An outstanding weekend for Trent, Migue,l and Thomas all going 3-0 in singles. We have an important week of practice ahead in preparation for a tough road test at Florida State. We can't wait to get home and get back to work."
Play began in singles competition for the Bulldogs, as No. 1 Ethan Quinn, No. 10 Philip Henning, No. 21 Blake Croyder, No. 70 Teodor Giusca, and No. 106 Trent Bryde battled against players from No. 8 Texas, while Miguel Perez Peña and Thomas Paulsell took on Miami's athletes. Georgia totaled four wins on the day on behalf of Giusca, Bryde, Paulsell and Perez Peña.
Sophomores Paulsell and Perez Peña concluded a strong weekend with a victory, both going 3-0 and winning each of their three matches in straight sets. Paulsell, a Seattle native, improved to 9-5 with a 6-4, 6-2 result against Miami's Jackson Armistead. Perez Peña joins top-ranked Quinn as the only two players on the team heading into the dual match season with double-digit wins after beating Leo Bierbaum in an impressive 6-1, 6-0 decision.
Bryde picked up a win on day three against Nevin Arimilli of Texas by a 6-4, 6-4 score. The senior became the third Georgia player to go 3-0 at the event, picking up the team's lone ranked win and now standing at 7-4 on the year. Bryde has now won six of his last seven singles matches.
Giusca and Henning closed out the event picking up a doubles win for Georgia. The tandem defeated Lucas da Silva and Connor Thomson in a narrow match that needed a tiebreaker to decide the victor, with the Red and Black standing tall with an 8-7(4) final result.
Redshirt freshman Quinn earned a win on Saturday against South Carolina's James Story by a 6-4, 6-2 margin. The top-ranked player in the country will begin his first dual match season with a 10-2 record and an 8-1 mark against other ranked opponents.

Georgia will begin its dual match season next Sunday, Jan. 15, at 1 p.m. against the No. T-16 Florida State Seminoles at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center in Tallahassee.
