Georgia volleyball will have its first road test of the 2022 season this weekend as the Bulldogs travel to the Boston area for the Harvard/Northeastern Challenge.Â

On Friday, Georgia will play Iona at 12:30 p.m. and host Northeastern at 5 p.m. at the Cabot Center. The Bulldogs conclude the weekend with an 11 a.m. matchup at Harvard on Saturday.

Georgia's season opening homestand continued at Stegeman Coliseum last weekend, hosting the Bulldog Classic. The Bulldogs kept their extended their set winning streak to 16 straight after sweeping Charlotte and Charleston Friday and Saturday. Texas Tech got the best of the Bulldogs in Saturday's nightcap, handed Georgia its first loss of the season, in four sets. Senior outside hitter Kacie Evans tallied 20 kills in Saturday's sweep of Charleston, hitting .515 in the match. She reached the 1,000-kill milestone late in Saturday's match against the Red Raiders. Evans had an outstanding day, garnering 38 kills across seven sets from the two matches.Â

Evans Joins 1,000-Kill Club
During the third set of Georgia's match against Texas Tech Sept. 3 at Stegeman Coliseum, senior outside hitter Kacie Evans became the newest member of Georgia's 1,000-Kill Club. She is the 19th all-time member of the club and the second under Tom Black, Rachel Ritchie (2017-21) being the other.Â

Fischer Tabbed SEC Player of the Week
The SEC named junior middle blocker Sophie Fischer the first SEC Player of the Week of the 2022 season. Fischer made her Georgia debut, putting up strong numbers for the Bulldogs. On the net, Fischer averaged 2.14 blocks per set (15 blocks in seven sets played), the best average of any player in the SEC on opening weekend. Her efforts on defense held Georgia's opponents to a .058 hitting percentage in three matches. She broke Georgia's rally scoring record for blocks in a three-set match against Troy, putting up 11 against the Trojans. Offensively, Fischer laid down eight kills against Troy and totaled 15 (2.14 kill/set) on opening weekend, hitting .310 out of the middle.Â
