Bulldogs Open SEC Match Play In Fourth

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. --- The Georgia men's golf team stands fourth after two rounds of the SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs logged 36 holes on the par-70, 7,204-yard layout at Old Overton Club. Georgia fired rounds of 4-over 284 and 17-under 263 to land at 13-under 547. The Bulldogs' loop of 17-under tied Vanderbilt for the lowest of the day. The Commodores opened in first at 32-under 528, followed by Auburn (24-under 536) and Tennessee (23-under 537).
Senior Nicolas Cassidy paced the Bulldogs on Sunday as he signed for a 4-under 66 and a 2-under 68 for a total of 6-under 134. Cassidy is in ninth place, four shy of Vanderbilt's Gordon Sargent. Cassidy was 3-over after six holes to open the tournament, but he rallied with seven birdies. He added three more birdies in the second round.
Senior Ben van Wyk had the Bulldogs' lowest figure of the day as he posted a 6-under 64 in the second round. That round was highlighted by a hole in one on the par-3, 187-yard third. The senior added an eagle and three birdies during the second round. He stands 19th at 3-under 137.
Sophomore Buck Brumlow and junior Caleb Manuel registered 4-under 66s in the second round and senior Connor Creasy finished at 3-under 67. Brumlow is 28th at 2-under 138; Manuel, who is making his Georgia debut after two seasons at UConn, is 31st at 1-under 139; and Creasy is 36th at even-par 140.
The Bulldogs will complete the stroke play portion of the event on Monday as they will tee off alongside LSU and Texas A&M between 9:50-10:30 a.m. The top two finishers after stroke play will square off in match play on Tuesday for the team title. The remaining 12 teams will face off in match play events as well.
