A Look At The Bulldogs In Professional Baseball

ATHENS-----The University of Georgia has 24 Bulldogs in professional baseball including three at the Major League level.
Kyle Farmer has been the starting shortstop or third baseman this season for the Cincinnati Reds and putting together a fine year. First baseman Jared Walsh (Los Angeles Angels) and pitcher Alex Wood (San Francisco) were starters for their respective clubs until injuries ended their season. They are on track to return in 2023.
3 Bulldogs In The Majors
Kyle Farmer, INF, Cincinnati
.258 BA, .318 OBP, .708 OPS, 13 HR, 71 RBI, 4 SB
Farmer is a regular in the Reds starting lineup and on pace for of his best seasons as a professional. He has already established a career-high in RBI and now is closing in on the mark for home runs. Last year, he hit .263 with 16 home runs and 63 RBI in 147 games for the Reds.
Also of note, he was chosen as the Reds nominee for the 2022 Heart and Hustle Award, which goes to active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit, and traditions of the game. The Heart and Hustle Award is the only award in Major League baseball (MLB) that is voted on by the former players. The overall winner will be announced in mid-November on MLB Network.

A year after an All-Star season, Walsh was hindered with injuries this year. He will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome on Sept. 1. He is expected to be ready for Spring Training next year. Walsh did receive good news when he learned the Angels had nominated him for the Robert Clemente Award.
