Athens, Ga. – Fifth-ranked Georgia defeated LSU, 13-8, on Saturday night at Foley Field to clinch the SEC regular season title for the first time since 2008.

"Starting with the game, I thought it was back and forth. We had that big run right there. We didn't do some things on the mound I wanted to do, but that's okay. We'll continue to work those out and iron them out. Paul Farley was huge for us right there. Grant Edwards coming in, getting that double play and then the strikeout. Matt [Scott], throwing the ninth was really big for us. Offensively, Michael O'Shaughnessy continues to come up and get big hits at times and got off two really good swings tonight. We can point to a lot of other offensive things, but just to hit the highlights."
On winning the SEC regular season…
"It's massive. It's so hard to win this league, and then win it outright. It's something that you want to check off on your list of things that you've ever accomplished. It's right up there. It's hard to do. It's ten weekends of just meat house grinding."

"It says a lot to your older players, your veterans, your Kolby Branch, Tre Phelps, Daniel Jackson, who have been in this league and understand what it takes to go through this. "I was talking to my dad about it, and he was telling me that he could tell that we like each other. There's something to be said about the team chemistry and the identity of this team. We've got people on the bench cheering on the guys that are starting and the starters cheering on people on the bench players when they get at-bats. It's a full team effort, the pitchers, hitters, the coaches. I couldn't be prouder."

"Me, Kolby [Branch], and Tre [Phelps] have been here all three years of Wes [Johnson]'s time. Watching the program grow in such a short amount of time, it's awesome. We have four SEC games left and to be able to hang that up there – the SEC Champs already – it's amazing."
On what makes this team special…
"By far this team is the closest group of guys in the three years I've been here. Everyone has each other's backs and everyone's willing to do the job. I think that's what we focus on. One step at a time. I think everyone's doing their own part, and that's what baseball is all about."
On staying present…
"An SEC Championship is great, but we want to do bigger and better things. That's just one piece of the puzzle. We're not looking too far ahead. We obviously don't want to look too far ahead about after this, but we're going to celebrate and get back out there tomorrow."

- Senior Jordy Oriach (2-for-4, 3 RBI) capped off the frame with a two-run homer over the right field wall.
- Junior Daniel Jackson (2-for-4, 2 RBI) recorded RBI hits in consecutive at-bats in the fifth and sixth innings for his 69th and 70th RBIs of the year. Jackson is currently tied for fourth in the NCAA for RBIs.
- O'Shaugnessy launched a second homer on the day in the eighth inning to give him 17 for the year. It's the fourth time this season O'Shaugnessy has recorded multiple home runs in a game.
