First Serve
Georgia volleyball continues its season-opening homestand this weekend, hosting the Bulldog Classic at Stegeman Coliseum. The six-match round robin tournament begins Friday and includes Charlotte, College of Charleston, and Texas Tech.

The Bulldogs will open tournament play Friday evening against Charlotte at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's twin bill includes matchups with College of Charleston at 10:30 a.m. and Texas Tech at 7:30 p.m.

Georgia opened the 2022 campaign with three sweeps at home to go 3-0 in the Classic City Clash with wins over Troy, Chattanooga, and Santa Clara. This is the first time the Bulldogs have opened the season with three wins since 2018 and the first with three sweeps since 2017, Black's first season as head coach, when Georgia put together five-straight sweeps to open the season.

Fischer Tabbed SEC Player of the Week
The SEC named junior middle blocker Sophie Fischer the first SEC Player of the Week of the 2022 season. Fischer made her Georgia debut, putting up strong numbers for the Bulldogs. On the net, Fischer averaged 2.14 blocks per set (15 blocks in seven sets played), the best average of any player in the SEC on opening weekend. Her efforts on defense held Georgia's opponents to a .058 hitting percentage in three matches. She broke Georgia's rally scoring record for blocks in a three-set match against Troy, putting up 11 against the Trojans. Offensively, Fischer laid down eight kills against Troy and totaled 15 (2.14 kill/set) on opening weekend, hitting .310 out of the middle.

Bulldogs Set for Strong 2022 Slate of Matches
Georgia's 2022 schedule features three opponents that concluded the season in the AVCA Top 25 and eight NCAA Tournament participants from a year ago. The 29-match schedule is set to begin with back-to-back tournaments hosted in Stegeman Coliseum Aug. 26-27 and Sept. 2-3. Georgia will hit the road in week three, going to Boston for a trio of matches. The final week of non-conference action will begin in Fayetteville, Arkansas when Georgia takes on NC State. The Bulldogs will return to Athens to host Georgia Tech Saturday, Sept. 17 in the non-conference finale. Southeastern Conference action begins on the road Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Mississippi State.

Breaking Down the Roster
The 2022 Georgia volleyball roster returns a strong group of veterans on the offense, led by senior outside hitters Kacie Evans and Amber Stivrins. Graduate Sage Powell provides four years of experience on the net. The middle will be bolstered by 6-5 Kentucky transfer Sophie Fischer. A combo of senior Meghan Froemming and freshman Tori Harper will provide kills and defense up front on the opposite pin. Redshirt-junior Alexa Fortin and sophomore Clara Brower will compete for time running Georgia's offense dishing out sets. The back line will be held down from a pair of veterans who shared time wearing the libero jersey in 2021 in Bailey Cox and Mallory Downing. In all, Georgia returns four starters plus a libero from a season ago. The Bulldogs welcomed four newcomers this season.
