Track Teams, 12 Individuals Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

ATHENS, Ga. --- Both the Georgia men and women's track and field teams as well as 12 individuals have earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors, according to a recent announcement.

The Lady Bulldogs posted a cumulative 3.51 team GPA while the Georgia men finished with a 3.2 GPA during the same span. Â

Teams are included as All-Academic squads if they post at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA.  Along with a host of other annual All-Academic Team honors over the years, the UGA women were named the 2017 USTFCCCA National Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year as well as the country's top squad in the category during the 2018 indoor season. Â

The Bulldog men's team was named the 2014 and 2018 USTFCCCA National Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year. Â

Individually, Anna Marian Block (Journalism – 3.54), Imani Carothers (Criminal Justice/Sociology – 3.72), Jamari Drake (Master's of Fashion Merchandising – 3.26), Julia Harisay (Master's of International Policy – 4.00), Titiana Marsh (Psychology – 3.25), Shelby Tyler (International Business/Economics – 3.94), Matthew Boling (Marketing - 3.36), Darius Carbin (Engineering – 3.76), Johannes Erm (Mechanical Engineering/Communication Studies – 3.4), Ahmed Magour (Sport Management/Risk Management & Insurance/Finance – 3.39), Clay Pender (Finance – 3.41) and Nikolai van Huyssteen (Civil Engineering – 3.54) earned spots as All-Academic Individuals. Â

A minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA and being ranked in either the top 96 in an individual event (top 48 for relays) indoors are mandatory for individual honors.  Outdoors, student-athletes must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (the Preliminary Championship Competition and/or the Final Championship Competition) or for the multi-events, must have finished the season ranked in the top 48 in the East or top 48 in the West for the most recent outdoor season, certifiable by their place on the NCAA Division I list.
