June 21, 2022 | Track & Field
ATHENS, Ga. --- Bulldog high jumper Shelby Tyler has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, according to an announcement Tuesday.
Tyler, a native of Noblesville, Ind., turned her first All-District selection in May into her first All-America selection this week. Junior Matthew Boling and senior Johannes Erm were also 2021-22 All-District selections. The men's All-America teams are released on Wednesday.
Last year, distance runner Jessica Drop earned her second consecutive Second Team All-America selection while Boling was included as a Third Team selection.
The Bulldogs had a First Team Academic All-American for four consecutive years from 2015-18, including Bowerman winner and two-time Olympian Keturah Orji who was a three-time honoree (2016-18). In 2015, Brandon Lord was a First Team Academic All-American to start the aforementioned streak while former NCAA decathlon champion and two-time Olympian Maicel Uibo was also a Second Team All-American that year. Georgia had a pair of First Teamers in 2016 as Orji and former NCAA high jump champion Leontia Kallenou garnered the awards.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
Tyler graduated in three years with degrees in International Business and Economics and a minor in Spanish. Boasting a 3.95 GPA, Tyler was awarded the Joel Eaves Scholar-Athlete Award for having the highest GPA of any senior female student-athlete entering her final year. She has twice earned First Team All-America honors in the high jump, including a fifth-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Tyler was an Olympic Trials qualifier as well as a Presidential Scholar and member of the Dean's List.
