March 18, 2022 | Gymnastics

ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia fifth-year gymnast Emily Schild has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the conference announced Friday.

A bars and beam specialist from Huntersville, North Carolina, stands out as Georgia's leader in Community Service. With her bubbly personality and genuine heart for others, Schild goes above and beyond her call of duty to the UGA and Athens community.

This year she has been heavily involved with the GymDogs' signee through Team Impact- reaching out to her, making her feel like a part of the team, and keeping her mind off of her cancer treatments. She has been involved with Team United and the Special Olympics, participating in the annual baseball game at UGA and playing in the gymnastics facility.

Additionally, Emily has been a mentor at the Barrow Elementary School, sharing knowledge and life experiences with young children, and offering encouragement and friendship. She also takes advantage of numerous volunteer opportunities including giving her time to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, donating and packing food, as well as volunteering at marathons and those of the like around the Athens area.

Schild and the GymDogs are set to compete at the SEC Championship this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama. Georgia competes in the first session, beginning at 3:30 ET on Saturday, March 19.
