Bulldogs Post Three Top-10 Times on First Day of Last Chance

ATHENS, Ga. – With three top-10 program times, numerous B-cuts, and a multitude of personal-best times, the University of Georgia swimming and diving team opened the Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet in impressive fashion Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Sophomore Wesley Ng closed out the day's events with a B-cut of 45.93, dropping half a second from his PR at last week's SEC Championships and moving up to fourth all-time in program history. Earlier in the evening session, junior Zach Hils turned in the seventh-fastest 200 IM in program history with a B-cut of 1:43.15. In the third top-10 time of the day, freshman Matthew Sates notched a B-cut of 3:41.85 in the 400 IM, the ninth-fastest mark all-time. Sates followed that up with a B-cut of 1:44.83 in the 200 IM.
Like Ng, freshman Mia Abruzzo improved upon her PR from SECs with a B-cut time of 4:09.79 in the 400 IM. In the 200 backstroke, juniors Ian Grum and Millie Sansome both strengthened their standing ahead of NCAA selections. Grum posted a season-best B-cut of 1:40.79, while Sansome set a new personal-best time of 1:54.68.
In the 200 butterfly, freshman Abby McCulloh picked up another B-cut with a time of 1:59.19, joining her A-cut in the mile and B-cut in the 500 freestyle. Meanwhile, junior Charlie Logan added to his B-cut in the 200 backstroke with one in the 500 freestyle, dropping a time of 4:22.63.
During the day, four Bulldogs earned their first B-cuts of the season, highlighted by freshman Rachel Stege, who led the pack in the 500 freestyle with a PR of 4:43.07. In the 500 free prelims, sophomore Sloane Reinstein broke through with a season-best time of 4:46.55. In the 100 butterfly, freshman Peter Sacca had B-cuts in both sessions, finishing with a time of 46.92 in the finals. Sophomore Zach Franklin earned his first career provisional cut with a time of 1:46.74 in the 200 IM.
Georgia closes its home season tomorrow with the final day of competition at the Bulldog Invitational. The prelims session begins at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 4 p.m. at Gabrielsen Natatorium. Live results will be available to paid subscribers on the MeetMobile app.
