EATONTON, Ga. — Georgia junior Caroline Craig shot 1-under 71 in Sunday's final round of the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invite, finishing fourth in the field and just one shot off a three-way tie for the individual title. She wrapped up the 54-hole event at 2-over 218 to lead a quartet of Bulldogs who competed as individuals at the tournament hosted by Mercer at The Golf Course at Great Waters.
"I'm happy for Caroline," head coach Josh Brewer said. "She came close to getting her first win in a college golf tournament today. She's played well in just about every tournament she's played this season and done what we've asked as coaches. Really, it was a good weekend for everyone. All four golfers did good things and playing competitive rounds also gave us a few things to work on and clean up."
Craig birdied her final hole of the day, No. 17, to move into red numbers but remained a stroke behind the co-medalists, Sophie Bert and Hollie Muse of East Tennessee State and Mindy Herrick of North Florida.
Craig opened the day at No. 18 with Sunday's shotgun start and was at par or better all day. She played the front side at even, mixing a birdie at No. 2 and a bogey at No. 3 with seven pars. Craig birdied No. 10 but gave that stroke back with a bogey at No. 14. She closed the day with a birdie-2 on the par-3, 145-yard No. 17.
Freshman LoraLie Cowart closed with her best round of the weekend, a 1-over 73, vault eight spots up the leaderboard and tie for 18th at 9-over 225. In addition, Candice Mahé shot 76 on Sunday and finished 24th, and Céleste Dao closed with a 78 and tied for 30th at 229.
The Bulldogs will return to action as a team a week from Monday when they tee off at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. The three-day event will be contested at Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island, S.C., and will be televised live from 2:30-5:30 ET every day, with encore presentations scheduled for later those nights.
