Georgia Falls to Florida, 4-2

SEATTLE, WASH. — The No.9-ranked Georgia men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 match to No.5-ranked Florida to conclude play in the 2022 ITA National Indoor Championship. 
 
The match started out close with the doubles point going down to the wire,  but ultimately going to Florida . The doubles pair of Blake Croyder and Erik Grevelius dashed to a 6-1 victory over Durate Vale and Abedallah Shelbayh. Croyder and Grevelius leave ITA Indoors improving to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in dual competition. 
 
Florida won doubles matches on courts one and two to secure the doubles point. The No.44-ranked doubles pair Mattias Siimar and Andy Andrade defeated No.50-ranked senior duo Trent Bryde and Philip Henning 6-4. Sam Riffice and Ben Shelton defeated No.54-ranked Hamish Stewart and Tristan McCormick in a 7-5 decision. 
 
Turning to singles, freshman Miguel Perez Peña came from behind in the second sight to tie it 3-3. However, despite his hustle Perez Peña fell to No.121-ranked Nate Nonetto 2-6,4-6. Florida then took a 2-0 lead.
 
The Gators advanced their lead to 3-0 with Andrade's win over No.23 Bryde 6-3,6-3.
 
Ranked wins from Stewart and Croyder highlighted singles play for the Bulldogs. On court one No.19-ranked Stewart ousted No.92 Riffice in a 7-6(5),6-2 decision. So far in the 2022-21 season Stewart is 7-3 against nationally ranked opponents and is 8-2 in the dual season. Facing the No.33 individual in Siimar, Croyder earned his highest ranked singles win of the season with a 6-4,4-6,6-3 victory. Croyder leades ITA Indoors still perfect with an 7-0 record in the dual season. 
 
With two matches left on the courts the score was 3-2 in favor of the Gators. 
 
Despite winning the first set No.25 Henning fell to the No.3-ranked singles player in Shelton in a 7-6(5), 2-6,2-6 decision. This clinched the match for Florida and left No. 101 McCormick and Vale's match on court four unfinished. 
 
The Georgia men's tennis program will return to Athens to face Mercer on Sunday, February 27 at 1 p.m. ET at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
