Georgia Defeats Washington 4-3

SEATTLE, WASH. — The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Washington Huskies 4-3 late Saturday at the Consolation Draw of the ITA Indoor National Championship.
Georgia won the doubles point from wins on courts one and two. On No.2 the senior duo of Trent Bryde and Philip Henning who are ranked No.50 defeated Clement Chidekh and Nedium Suko 6-4. The deciding match for the doubles point came from No.1 and the No.54-ranked graduate transfer tandem of Hamish Stewart and Tristan McCormick. Stewart and McCormick defeated Jack Davis and Brandon Wong 7-6(3). Ewen Lumsden and Cesar Bouchelaghem defeated Georgia's Senior Blake Croyder and Erik Grevelius 6-2.
McCormick faced Davis again in the singles competition. Keeping the rhythm he found in doubles No.101 McCormick conquered Davis in straight sets, 6-2,6-2. The Bulldogs went up 2-0 over the Huskies in the match.
In a top-25 matchup at No.1, Stewart faced tough competition going toe-to-toe against the No.2-ranked singles player in the country in Washington's Chidekh. Chidekh defeated No.19 Stewart 6-3,6-1. Georgia then led by only one in the match.
Despite his best efforts, No.25 Henning fell to Lumsden 6(3)-7-6-0, and the match was tied at 2-2.
No.23-ranked Bryde showed his dominance in a 6-4,6-3 win over Han-Chih Lin. Bryde's victory put the Bulldogs up one over the Huskies in the match.
Thomas Paulsell found himself in a head-to-head freshmen battle on court six against Bouchelaghem. Bouchelaghem defeated Paulsell 7-6,6-1 which tied the match at 3-3.
It all came down to Blake Croyder on court five who is no stranger to clinching matches so far in the 2022 season. No.104 Croyder trounced Suko 7-6,6-1 to bring the Bulldogs their first win in Seattle.
The Georgia Bulldogs will face familiar SEC foe the Florida Gators Sunday, February 20 at 6:30 p.m. ET. Florida is ranked No.5-nationally and is seeded at No.4 in the ITA Indoors.
