Georgia Falls to No. 6 Wake Forest, 4-3

SEATTLE, WASH. — Facing off against No. 6-ranked Wake Forest for the second time in 12 days, the Georgia men's tennis team fell just short in a 4-3 loss Friday evening at the ITA National Indoor Championships.
Georgia started strong, earning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.
The No.3 doubles pair of senior Blake Croyder and junior Erik Grevelius continued their dominance in the dual season, defeating the No. 19 ranked Wake Forest tandem of Ben Draper and Robert Maciag, 6-4. At No.1, the No.54-ranked doubles pair of graduate transfers Tristan McCormick and Hamish Stewart ousted No. 20-ranked Siddhant Banthia and Jakob Schnaitter, 6-4. McCormick and Stewart are now undefeated against nationally ranked opponents and improve to 3-1 in the dual match season.
In singles, Wake Forest tied the match 1-1 with Schnaitter's 6-3,6-1 win over Grevelius.
Croyder regained the lead for the Bulldogs winning in straight sets over No.119 Baadi, 6-1,7-5. Croyder is now a perfect 5-0 in singles this spring. The back-and-forth match was tied again after No.71 Nava got the better of No.101 McCormick 6-3,6-2 to make the score 2-2.
Stewart, Philip Henning and Trent Bryde were left on the courts and battled it out with their respective competition in tight matches.
Sending the Bulldogs up 3-2 in the match was No.19 Stewart's win over No.51 Melios Efstathiou 7-6(7),6-4.
The match was tied yet again at 3-3 with No. 99 Jurabek Karimov's win over No.25 Henning 7-6(3),6-2, putting the match in Bryde's hands at No. 4.
After losing the first set, No.23-ranked Bryde hustled to win the tiebreaker in the second set to force a third against No. 35 Filippo Moroni. Moroni got the upper hand in the third set against Bryde and closed out the match with a 6-2, 7-6(1),6-3 victory.
Georgia will face off against the loser of the Ohio State vs. Washington matchup at 9:30 p.m. ET Saturday.
