West Virginia Comes Back to Beat Georgia, 49-45

ATHENS, Ga. — West Virginia used a 16-0 second-half run to overcome a 16-point deficit and defeat the Georgia Lady Bulldog basketball team, 49-45, Tuesday on the first day of the West Palm Beach Invitational.
Diamond Battles led all scorers in the game with 17 points, while Malury Bates added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Georgia falls to 9-3 on the year, while the Mountaineers improve to 8-2. The Lady Bulldogs will play San Diego State at 2:30 p.m. ET Wednesday.
Battles scored seven first-quarter points and Bates added six to lead Georgia to a 19-11 lead at the end of one quarter. West Virginia was held to just four made field goals in the opening frame as Georgia forced six turnovers.
Georgia went on a 15-0 run to extend the advantage to 27-11 early in the second quarter – the largest UGA lead in the game.
West Virginia outscored Georgia 12-3 in the third frame as the Lady Bulldogs hit just 1-of-12 from the floor in that period. Still, Georgia was hanging on to a 37-34 advantage going into the fourth.
The Mountaineers' run continued in the fourth as they held on for the 49-45 win.
