
Georgia Wraps Up Non-Conference Play with 63-44 Win

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Led by three players in double figures, the Georgia women's basketball team defeated San Diego State, 63-44, Wednesday afternoon on the second day of the West Palm Beach Invitational.
Malury Bates led the Georgia scoring effort with 12 points, while De'Mauri Flournoy and Brittney Smith added 10 a piece. Georgia's defensive pressure forced 23 SDSU turnovers and a 30 percent shooting effort.
The Lady Bulldogs end non-conference play with an 11-3 record. Georgia will travel to Alabama on Dec. 29 to open SEC action.
Georgia jumped out early, going on a 6-0 run and then an 11-2 run to take a commanding lead in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs forced eight first-quarter turnovers and had a balanced scoring effort, including good minutes from Flournoy, to take a 22-5 lead into the second quarter.
Ramos hit back-to-back 3-pointers to open the next 10 minutes, helping San Diego State climb back in it at 24-13 with 8:04 left before halftime. The Lady Bulldogs finished the quarter hitting a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line to take a 34-16 advantage into the locker room at the half.
Audrey Warren knocked in a 3-pointer — Georgia's first basket of the second half — to begin another Lady Bulldog scoring surge. After an even third quarter, Georgia led 52-34 going into the fourth.
SDSU scored the first six points of the fourth quarter and got within 12 at 52-40 with 8:32 remaining.
