October 30, 2022 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia graduate midfielder Abby Boyan was named to the First Team All-SEC Sunday morning, as announced by the league office in Birmingham.
With the honor, Boyan becomes the fifth player in program history to earn three All-SEC honors, joining Carolyn Cayard, Carrie Patterson, Andrea Velasco, and Stephanie Yarem. The Spring Lake, New Jersey native was named to the First Team in 2020 and Second Team in 2021. Earlier this week, she was also named to the SEC Community Service Team.
This season, Boyan tallied two goals and a team-high six assists, finishing the regular season with 10 points. She led the team in both shots (38) and shots on goal (14), while also accumulating 1,361 minutes of field minutes. During this past week, she set new program records for career appearances and starts (89).
In other SEC awards, regular season champion Alabama nearly swept the entire suite, with Ole Miss' Ashley Orkus being the lone exception as Goalkeeper of the Year.
Boyan and her Georgia (11-5-2, 5-3-2 SEC) teammates open postseason play on Tuesday, Nov. 1 as the sixth-seeded Bulldogs face No. 3 Tennessee in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals in Pensacola, Florida. The match is set for a 3:30 p.m. EDT kickoff and will air live on SEC Network.
