Bulldogs Stand Seventh In Hawaii

LAHAINA, Hawaii --- The No.-17 ranked Georgia men's golf team opened the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in seventh place on Friday.
Playing the Royal Ka'anapali Course's par-71, 6,700-yard layout, the Bulldogs fired a total of 6-under 278. Clemson grabbed the first-round lead at 17-under 267, followed by Oklahoma at 16-under 268.
Senior Ben van Wyk and sophomore Maxwell Ford paced the Bulldogs as they landed in 28th after signing for 2-under 69s -- five shy of co-leaders Andrew Swanson of Clemson and Drew Goodman of Oklahoma. Senior Nicolas Cassidy and junior Caleb Manuel added 1-under-71s for 38th. Sophomore Buck Brumlow, in 48th, had the Bulldogs' non-counting score of even-par 71.
Playing as an individual, freshman Carter Loflin opened with a 3-under 68, good enough for 16th.
The Bulldogs will return to the course on Saturday at 2 p.m. and will be paired with Kansas, Ole Miss, and UC Irvine for the second round.
