Â
Let's Recap
Georgia earned a three-set sweep of the 11th-ranked Florida Gators Wednesday evening on the road, the Bulldogs' first SEC sweep of the season. It was the fourth win over a ranked opponent under head coach Tom Black, the last against then-No. 5 Florida on Nov. 20, 2020. This is the first time Georgia has swept a ranked opponent since Nov. 27, 1993 (No. 12 Kentucky in the SEC Tournament in Birmingham). This is Georgia's first sweep of Florida since Oct. 20, 1989. Senior Kacie Evans paced the offense with 16 kills in the match, adding six blocks with five digs. Fellow senior Amber Stivrins put up nine kills while junior Sophie Fischer tallied eight.Â
Â
Coaching Connection
First-year Alabama head coach and former Georgia Bulldog Rashinda Reed will make her return to Athens this weekend. Reed wore the Red & Black from 2002 to 2004, graduating in 2005 with her degree in psychology. Reed led the Bulldogs in blocks in 2002 and 2003. Reed and the Bulldogs made an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2004 at Georgia Tech.Â
Â
Aces Wild
Georgia has consistently had strong serving since Tom Black's arrival in Athens and 2022 has been no difference. Nationally, Georgia's 1.84 aces per set ranks 26th while checking in at second in the SEC. Georgia had a great series at the service line against Auburn, acing the Tigers 21 times in nine sets. Individually, Kacie Evans (0.41 aces/set) ranks third in the SEC.Â
Â
Evans is Killing it
Kacie Evans' 3.98 kills per set ranks 42nd in the country and third in the SEC. She's third in the conference with a 4.8 points per set average, a clip that currently ranks 25th in the country.Â
Â
The Great Wall of Fischer
Sophie Fischer has propelled herself toward the top of the country ranking ninth and the top of the SEC with 1.49 blocks per set. Her 100 total blocks ranks second in the league. As a team, Georgia's 2.54 blocks per set ranks fourth in the SEC. Georgia's block defense has helped hold opponents to a .178 hitting clip, third best in the league. Offensively, Fischer's .331 hitting percentage is eighth in the SEC.Â
