FRANKLIN, Tenn. — The No. 5-ranked Georgia women's golf team posted a 10-over 298 in Friday's opening round of the Mason Rudolph Championship. The Bulldogs are in 13th place on the team leaderboard with 36 holes remaining to play at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Jo Hua Hung, who is competing as an individual and not in Georgia's lineup for the weekend, posted the low score of any Bulldog on the day. The senior carded a 1-under 71 and is tied for 13th individually. Hung's score, which was six shots better than Georgia's highest counting effort on the day, therefore did not count in the Bulldogs' team total team total.
"We know we have a very deep team and that played out today," head coach Josh Brewer said. "There's a lot of competition to get into our lineup each week, and Jo just missed out for this weekend. I'm happy she's able to compete as an individual. The players who earn spots in our lineup need to take advantage of that opportunity. There are a lot of birdies out there, and we know tomorrow is another day. We finished with four birdies on the last two holes, and we'll look to carry that momentum into tomorrow and get off to a good start.
Hung teed off from No. 10 and played the back side of the course first. She birdied No. 10 but then bogeyed No. 11, No. 12 and No. 16 to fall to 2-over through eight holes. Hung gained one of those strokes back with a birdie at No. 17 and then notched consecutive birdies at No. 3 and No. 4 to move back into red numbers.
Georgia's team score was comprised from a 73 from Jenny Bae, a pair of 74s from Caroline Craig and Caterina Don and a 77 from Isabella Holpfer. Candice Mahé's 80 was the Bulldogs' dropped score.
In addition to Hung's 13th place standing, Bae is tied for 31st, Craig and Don are tied for 39th, Holpfer is tied for 60th and Mahé is 80th.
Oregon grabbed the team lead by shooting 276, six shots better than host Vanderbilt in second. The Commodores' Auston Kim is atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under 65.
Georgia will be paired with Chattanooga and Mississippi State for Saturday's second round, teeing off from No. 10 between 10:45-11:35 am ET. Live scoring is available via golfstat.com.
