The 2021 Georgia volleyball season begins this weekend at Stegeman Coliseum in the Classic City Clash. Georgia will play host to Morehead State, No. 22 Pepperdine, and Winthrop.Â

The Bulldogs officially kick off the season against Morehead State Friday evening at 7 p.m. Georgia takes on Winthrop and Pepperdine on Saturday.

Morehead State
- Georgia leads the all-time series 4-2
- The Bulldogs and Eagles met four times in the 80's and didn't meet again until 2003Â
- The last meeting was in 2006; Morehead State won the match in Athens in five sets on opening weekend
Winthrop
- Georgia leads the all-time series 8-1
- The Bulldogs won the first eight straight meetings and lost the most recent in Athens in 2006
- This will be the fourth meeting of the Bulldogs and Eagles in Athens
Pepperdine
- Georgia trails the all-time series 1-2
- Georgia won the first meeting in five sets in 1994; have lost both since in 2004 and 2011

A Look at What's Ahead
Georgia will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to take part in the Ameritas Players Challenge hosted by the University of Nebraska. The Bulldogs will open play in Lincoln Friday morning against Arizona State before taking on No. 5 Nebraska that evening on Big 10 Network. Georgia's final match in Nebraska will be against Omaha Saturday afternoon.Â

Bulldogs Set for Strong 2021 Slate of MatchesÂ
Eight opponents on Georgia's schedule appeared in the 2020 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament, three of which played in the Elite Eight round. Six of Georgia's opponents concluded the season in the AVCA Top 25 including top-10 finishers Kentucky, Florida, and Nebraska.Â

Blocking Improves in 2020-21
Georgia concluded the 2020-21 season ranked fourth in the SEC in blocking as a team, completing the campaign with 2.25 blocks per set. It was the highest finish in the category under Tom Black. SEC All-Freshman Team member Phoebe Awoleye finished top-five in the league with 1.05 blocks per set as a rookie.

Breaking Down the Roster
The Bulldogs' roster features 17 student-athletes with a mix of experienced and new talent. Overall, each position on the court comes with a significant amount of depth. The roster breaks down to five seniors, three juniors and sophomores each, and a total of six freshman, five of which are true freshmen. Position wise, the Bulldogs have a near perfect mix at each position. Georgia returns five starters plus its starting libero from last season.Â
