Pair of Bulldogs Named ITA Scholar-Athletes
July 12, 2021 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia men's tennis players Blake Croyder and Billy Rowe were each named 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes, the ITA announced Monday.
To earn scholar-athlete honors, a player must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.00 scale. Croyder boasted a 3.58 GPA in housing management and policy, while Rowe, who earned his bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in business at Vanderbilt, garnered a 3.78 GPA as he earned a Master of Science in business analytics at the University of Georgia.
"We are very proud of Blake and Billy for the outstanding job they did in the classroom," head coach Manuel Diaz said. "To earn above a 3.5 GPA is not easy, and to do that at the University of Georgia is no small task. Blake and Billy are great young men who serve as role models for so many young aspiring tennis players. I know great things are ahead for each of them."
Croyder and Rowe are also doubles partners for the Bulldogs and put together a 12-5 mark at the No. 2 doubles court this season. The pair finished ranked No. 48 nationally with a trio of wins against nationally-ranked foes.
Rowe — a seven-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and two-time selection to the SEC Community Service Team — was a graduate transfer who made an immediate impact in his lone year with the Bulldogs. In addition to his high marks in the classroom and on the doubles courts, he led Georgia with six match clinchers, including the Round of 16 winner against No. 6 North Carolina. The Coronado, Calif., native finished with a 17-10 singles record.
Croyder, a native of Marietta, Ga., has played three seasons in Athens, earning back-to-back ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. He boasted 17 singles wins during his junior campaign, including the clincher against Texas Tech in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
