May 20, 2021 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Georgia softball student-athletes Lacey Fincher and Jaiden Fields were recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Thursday as All-Southeast Region Third Team honorees.
This is the 74th and 75th NFCA All-Region honors in the history of Georgia softball.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second, and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2021 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
Fincher, a junior from Tanner Williams, Alabama, was Georgia's top hitter, hitting .331 on the season. She scattered 39 hits with 13 home runs and seven doubles. Her home runs and 31 RBI ranked second-best on the team in 2021. She slugged .720 on the season and drew 39 walks en route to a .512 on-base percentage. Fincher's slugging and on-base percentage ranked top-10 in the SEC and her base on balls count was top three in the league. Her 0.80 walks per game ranks 16th in the country.
Fields, a redshirt-sophomore from Kennesaw, appeared in 39 of Georgia's 50 games, mainly in the outfield. She tallied 27 hits including five home runs and two doubles on the season, driving in 20 runs. Fields broke on to scene on March 6, hitting two home runs in two games including a grand slam, driving in eight runs on the day. It was Fields who drove in the winning run to defeat No. 1 and then-undefeated Oklahoma on April 20.
Georgia begins NCAA Tournament play Friday against Western Kentucky at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens. First pitch against the Hilltoppers is set for 2:30 p.m., ET, on ESPN 3.
