BATON ROUGE, La. — Georgia posted a 301 in Wednesday's final round of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic at the University Club, leaving the 10th-ranked Bulldogs in 14th place on the leaderboard at 910.
The tournament concludes Georgia's regular-season schedule. The Bulldogs will open postseason play next Wednesday in the SEC Championships at Greystone Golf and Country Club outside Birmingham, Ala.
"You want to end your season on a perfect note but at the end of the day, this just puts a wrap on our regular season," head coach Josh Brewer said. "Everyone starts at zero next week no matter what you've accomplished so far. We want to remember the highs – like shooting the second-round round in school history in Sarasota – along with the lows. At the same time, that stuff doesn't matter next week."
A day after counting a pair of 79s in the first round and a 78 in the second round, the Bulldogs discarded a 77 on Wednesday.
Jenny Bae and Jo Hua Hung both shot 74 to lead Georgia in the final round. The Bulldogs also counted Candice Mahé's 76 and a 77, the tally recorded by both Carolina Craig and Céleste Dao.
No. 3 LSU swept the team and individual titles on its home course. The Tigers closed at 852, 22 shots better than runners-up No. 6 Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. Ingrid Lindblad captured medalist honors by shooting 211, three strokes ahead of Brooke Matthews of Arkansas and Julia Johnson of Ole Miss.
For Georgia, Hung tied for 20th at 221, Craig tied for 50th at 228, Mahé tied for 55th at 230, Bae tied for 60th at 231 and Dao finished 75th at 245.
The SEC Championships will feature all 14 league schools competing in 54 holes of stroke play on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Following the third round, the SEC individual champion will be crowned and the team field will be cut to eight schools for a match play bracket. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be contested on Saturday, and Sunday's championship match will be televised live on the SEC Network from 8:30-1:00 ET.
The Bulldogs' lineup will be bolstered in Birmingham by the return of sophomore Caterina Don, who did not compete in Baton Rouge after finishing 25th at the Augusta National Women's Amateur last weekend. Don remained in Athens to practice and concentrate on her classes.
The tournament switched the current stroke-match play format in 2018. Georgia advanced to the semifinals in both 2018 and 2019 before last year's event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We look forward to getting to a golf course we've played great on in the past and starting the most important part of our season," Brewer said.
