Athens, Ga. – The No. 3 Georgia women's tennis team defeated No. 27 Florida 4-1 Friday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex to improve to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
The match was decided within minutes of each other with No. 73 Morgan Coppoc, Elena Christofi and No. 16 Katarina Jokic all defeating their opponents in rapid succession to earn the Bulldogs the win.
Coppoc defeated Sara Dahlstrom 6-1, 6-2 on court four, Christofi defeated Sydney Berlin on court six 6-2, 6-3 and Jokic bested No. 32 McCartney Kessler 6-3, 6-3 on court one. No. 50 Marta Gonzalez suffered her first loss on the season, falling to No. 65 Layne Sleeth 6-2, 6-0 on court five.
Doubles was won by the Bulldogs for the ninth time this season with No. 37 Christofi and Coppoc defeating Dahlstrom and Ida Jarlskog 6-2 on court two and Meg Kowalski and Lea Ma defeating Berlin and Sleeth 6-1 on court 3. Jokic and Ariana Arseneault were defeated by No. 26 Marlee Zein and Kessler on court one, 6-1.
The Bulldogs will continue conference play on Sunday, March 7 against South Carolina with first serve set for 1 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
