ATHENS, Ga. – The 17th-ranked University of Georgia men's tennis team is gearing up for a pair of weekend matches at home as they host No. 13 Wake Forest Friday at 5 p.m. followed by No. 21 UCF Sunday at noon.
The Bulldogs are coming off back-to-back road wins after taking down ranked SEC foes Alabama (No. 28) and Auburn (No. 39) last weekend. The victories helped Georgia jump three places in the ITA Team Rankings released Wednesday, improving from No. 20 to No. 17.
"We are looking forward to this weekend and are excited to be back home," head coach Manuel Diaz said. "This weekend features two great opponents and an opportunity for our guys to build on a good start to the second half of the spring."
Wake Forest will enter this weekend's action having won four-straight. UCF, who first takes on Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla., Friday, is currently on a five-match win streak.
The Bulldogs own a 16-1 all-time series record over the Demon Deacons but fell in the most recent matchup in 2017, 4-3. Georgia's Sunday match against the Knights will be the first time the two programs have faced each other in the dual-match season.
Junior Blake Croyder and graduate transfer Billy Rowe lead the charge in dual-match doubles for Georgia. The pair boasts a 7-2 record, including a 4-1 mark in conference play and 6-2 record when playing at No. 2. Croyder and Rowe are currently on a three-match win streak.
In singles, Bulldogs junior Philip Henning and sophomore Erik Grevelius tie for most singles wins in dual-match play. Henning was also crucial in sealing the 4-3 win over Auburn last weekend, battling back to win his match in a third-set tiebreaker to clinch.
While still limited, matches will be open to the general public— 275 fans are welcome to attend on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Available seating will be marked in the grandstands, as well as the grass berm behind the lower courts. Fan seating will not be available in the men's and women's team clubhouses or in the playing level area adjacent to Court 3.
To enter the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, fans are encouraged to enter through the main entrance in front of the men's tennis club house. Masks are required at all times while moving throughout the facility. However, those in attendance may remove their masks once socially distanced in their seats.
Please note— if matches are moved indoors, fans will not be permitted to attend.
