Georgia Picks Up Four Victories on Second Night of Tech Invite

ATLANTA – Powered by a pair of top-10 relays, the University of Georgia swimming and diving team notched another solid day of competition Friday at the Georgia Tech Invitational at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
 
With one day remaining, the Georgia women hold a comfortable lead at 891 points, with Florida second at 755. In the men's meet, the Bulldogs stand fourth with 494 points.
 
Junior Zoie Hartman earned her second individual win in the 200 breaststroke with a season-best B-cut of 59.32, following her victory in the 200 IM on Thursday evening. Freshman Angharad Evans placed third with a time of 1:00.22 after posting a personal-best time of 1:00.00 in prelims. Hartman then closed out the night with a first-place 800 freestyle relay time of 7:06.44, joining sophomore Maxine Parker, freshman Duné Coetzee and junior Jillian Barczyk.
 
In the women's 100 butterfly, seniors Dakota Luther and Callie Dickinson swept the top two spots with season-best B-cuts of 52.58 and 52.93 respectively. Opening the evening session, Luther and Hartman joined senior Gabi Fa'amausili and Parker in the victorious 200 medley relay, with the quartet earning a B-cut of 1:36.82 and posting the ninth-fastest time in school history. In the opening 50 backstroke split, Fa'amausili set a new PR with a time of 24.31.
 
In the men's 200 breaststroke, senior Harrison Wayner also set a new PR with a B-cut time of 53.18, finishing fifth with the sixth-fastest time in program history. Wayner joined sophomores Wesley Ng and Luca Urlando and junior Dillon Downing to earn an A-cut in the 200 medley relay, finishing second with a time of 1:23.97, the third-fastest time in program history. Ng led off with a personal-best 21.48, while Downing closed a thrilling comeback with a 18.86 on the final 50 free.
 
Junior Millie Sansome earned a new personal-best time in the 100 backstroke, finishing second with a B-cut of 53.18. Fa'amausili finished close behind in third with a B-cut of 53.24, dropping nearly a second from her prelims time. In the 200 freestyle, Parker earned runner-up with a season-best B-cut of 1:45.64, with Coetzee and Barczyk also earning provisional standards. Finally, in the 400 IM, freshman Mia Abruzzo led with a fourth-place B-cut of 4:11.26.
 
On the men's side, junior Ian Grum placed fourth in the 400 IM with a season-best B-cut of 3:47.44, followed by a winning time of 47.78 in the 100 backstroke B final. Fellow junior Bradley Dunham posted the Bulldogs' top time in the 100 back A final with a sixth-place B-cut of 46.86, while also finishing sixth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:35.56.
 
At the diving well, sophomore Meghan Wenzel followed up her second-place finish in the 1-meter Thursday with a fifth-place Zone cut of 284.80 on the 3-meter. Senior Tally Brown placed 10th with a mark of 274.55, following a season-best score of 276.60 in prelims. In the men's 1-meter final, freshman Rhett Hopkins tallied a season-best 296.15, while senior Zach Allen finished ninth at 290.70.
 
The Georgia Tech Invitational concludes Saturday with the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, platform diving, and 400 freestyle relay. Swimming prelims begin at 10 a.m., followed by the full diving competition at 11:30 a.m., mile heats at 3:15 p.m., and the finals session at 5:30 p.m. The meet will be live streamed on ACC Network Extra.
